8 victims and gunman dead in Texas mall shooting, authorities say

A shooter at an outlet mall in Allen, Tex., killed at least eight people and injured seven Saturday, authorities said at a nighttime news conference. An Allen police officer on an unrelated call heard gunshots at the Allen Premium Outlets at 3:36 p.m. and engaged “the suspect and neutralized the threat,” police said.

Rep. Keith Self (R-Tex.) said that authorities were “unsure” of the shooter’s motive, but that there were multiple fatalities, including children.

Videos on social media showed people running through the parking lot of the mall, with loud pops ringing out in the background. At least nine people were hospitalized following the shooting, authorities confirmed.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said he had been in touch with the Allen mayor and Texas Department of Public Safety about the incident. He offered to send Texas Rangers and other investigative resources to assist local officials. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said it was also responding to the scene.
